  36. You must provide the VBRUN200.DLL file and copy this to your
  37. \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory prior to running the AutoDial installation 
  38. program.  VBRUN200.DLL can be obtained from Compuserve as VBRUN2.ZIP 
  39. in ZNT:TIPS Lib 10.

  41. If you do not already have a copy of VBRUN200.DLL you can get one from 
  42. Compuserve.  VBRUN200.DLL can be obtained from Compuserve as VBRUN2.ZIP 
  43. in the ZNT:TIPS Lib 10.

  56. Installation Requirements
  57. -------------------------
  58. AutoDial v2 requires Microsoft Windows v3.1, a 1200 bps or higher Hayes 
  59. or Hayes compatible modem, and roughly 600K of free disk space.  AutoDial
  60. uses tone dialing only.

  63. Installation Notes
  64. ------------------
  65. AutoDial can be installed from floppy diskette or from your hard disk
  66. drive.  To install from floppy insert the AutoDial diskette in your
  67. floppy drive and type A:\SETUP where A is the letter of your floppy
  68. drive.
  69.  
  70. To install from hard disk, copy all files from the AutoDial install
  71. diskette to a temporary directory on your hard drive.  From the
  72. Windows Program Manager, select File, Run.  Then type the path to
  73. the AutoDial setup program.  For example, if you copied the AutoDial
  74. files to C:\TEMP, type C:\TEMP\SETUP after selecting File, Run from
  75. the Windows Program Manager.

  77. If you downloaded the ZIP version of AutoDial, UNZIP all files to
  78. a temporary directory on your hard disk and then proceed with the 
  79. hard disk installation instructions listed above.
  80.  
  81. If you are using the MS Windows PROGMAN shell, the AutoDial installation
  82. program will create an AutoDial group and icon.  If not, you must manually
  83. setup the icon for AutoDial.  To do this select File, New, Program Group,
  84. OK from the Windows Program Manager.  Enter "AutoDial v2" in the Description
  85. field and select OK.  Select File, New, Program Item, OK from the Windows
  86. Program Manager.  Enter "AutoDial v2", the path to autodial.exe, and path
  87. to AutoDial install directory in the description, command line, and 
  88. working directory fields.  Select OK.
  89.  
  90. The AutoDial installation program copies the following files to your 
  91. WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory:
  92.  
  93.                 VBRUN200.DLL (diskette version only)
  94.                 MSCOMM.VBX
  95.                 THREED.VBX
  96.  
  97. If you reinstall Windows to a new drive or directory, or if you migrate
  98. AutoDial to a new PC be sure to copy these files to the new 
  99. \WINDOWS\SYSTEM sub directory or reinstall AutoDial.
  100.  
  101. The AutoDial v2 installation program will migrate an existing PHONE.DAT 
  102. file from AutoDial v1.0.
  103.  
  104. Program Notes
  105. -------------
  106. To use help, select the HELP button or simply press the F1 key.
  107.  
  108. Be sure that your modem is turned on prior to running AutoDial so that
  109. AutoDial can properly initialize your modem.  The modem is initialized
  110. at time of startup.  If initialization fails, you will be prompted with
  111. an error when you start AutoDial.  If this happens, check your modem
  112. connection.  AutoDial v2 allows modem initialization changes while
  113. in the program.  Select the Config button from the main screen.
  114.  
  115. AutoDial can be configured to use either COM1 or COM2.  AutoDial initializes
  116. your modem with the speaker turned off.  This is to prevent feedback when
  117. dialing a telephone number with your phone off hook. If you wish to change
  118. the initialization string, select the CONFIG button from the AutoDial
  119. main screen.  Change M to M2 to set the modem speaker on.  Select SEND 
  120. and then OK.  Save changes when quitting AutoDial for the change to take 
  121. effect.
  122.  
  123. Due to the timing differences in local telco switches the following
  124. may occur. If the Dial Beeper function of AutoDial results in a partial 
  125. number send (sends part of your phone number) or does not result in 
  126. a beep at all you must tune the S8 modem initialization parameter.  
  127. Increase this setting if AutoDial dials the beeper number and then 
  128. issues the send number (your phone number) before the beeper service 
  129. picks up.  Decrease the S8 parameter if AutoDial dials the beeper number
  130. and waits too long to issue the send number.  You can detect this by 
  131. turning the modem speaker on (change M to M2) in the initialization string.  
  132. To change to modem initialization string go to the main menu and:
  133.  
  134.         *       select Config, Change (or Select the Config Button)
  135.  
  136.         *       place cursor in the Modem Initialziation field and
  137.                 change the desired parameters
  138.  
  139.         *       select Send to test the changes
  140.  
  141.         *       select OK and answer yes when exiting AutoDial at 
  142.                 the Save Changes prompt.  AutoDial will use the new
  143.                 modem initialization string automatically on startup.
  144.  
  145. If your phone system requires a phone number prefix to access numbers
  146. outside of your building, be sure to configure AutoDial properly.  To
  147. configure a phone prefix number select the Config button, highlight the 
  148. Phone Prefix field and enter the desired number.
  149.  
  150. To Dial a phone number, highlight the desired entry and select "Dial Phone".
  151. You will be prompted to continue.  Pick up your phone and select "OK".  You
  152. will hear the phone begin to dial.  AutoDial will dial the number, wait 
  153. several seconds, and then send a hangup command to the modem.  As long as 
  154. you have the phone off hook the call will continue to be processed.
  155.  
  156. To Dial a beeper number, highlight the desired entry and select "Dial
  157. Beeper".  When prompted, select OK.  AutoDial will proceed with the
  158. call.  You will be notified of the following conditions:  BUSY, NO DIALTONE,
  159. NO ANSWER, ERROR.
  160.  
  161. Up to 63K (storage) worth of entries is permitted.  For example, if each
  162. entry averages 50 characters, then 1290 entries can be achieved.  Allow
  163. 6 to 10 control characters per entry.
  164.  
  165. *** Note:  Entry data is stored in the file PHONE.DAT.
  166.            Configuration data is stored in AUTODIAL.INI.

  168. To migrate the PHONE.DAT file from AutoDial v1.0 simply copy the
  169. file to the AutoDial v2 directory or install AutoDial v2 to your
  170. AutoDial v1 subdirectory.  For example:

  172.               copy c:\autodial\phone.dat c:\adial2
  173.  
  174. Changes from AutoDial v1.0
  175. --------------------------
  176. Added ability to change modem initialization string and to send the string
  177. to the modem during AutoDial operation.
  178.  
  179. Added a search facility called FIND where any entry text can be searched.
  180. For example, a phone number, beeper number, or part of a name or number
  181. can be searched for using FIND.
  182.  
  183. Included the Hayes AT Modem command set (2400) in the AutoDial online
  184. help.  All help is context sensitive.  For example, place the cursor in
  185. the modem init field and press F1 to jump to the AT Modem command set 
  186. online.
  187.  
  188. Removed the 500 entry limit.  The number of entries is limited to 63K of
  189. storage.  For example, if entries average 50 chars at total of 1290 
  190. entries is possible.  Allow for 6 to 10 control characters per entry.

  192. Added support for 800 beeper services that require a PIN number.

  194. Fixed problem where AutoDial would hog the processor during dial.  This
  195. gave the impression that the PC was hung until dial was completed.
